Angel Amabie

I didn’t start this drawing with the idea of making Amabie look like an angel. I started it with the idea of drawing her glowing and rising from the water like she was originally said to. But then when I was struggling to get her arms right I got to thinking, “You know, she’s already ostensibly part bird. Maybe I should try giving her angel wings.” I was a bit hesitant to do so because I’m usually too much of a purist to add completely new parts to a folk monster but it happened to be exactly what the picture needed! I think it’s partly because the way I was drawing her arms didn’t mesh with the rest of the picture. And also because making her angelic makes a lot sense given that she’s meant to be a symbol of hope. This is probably my favorite of all the Amabies I’ve drawn.
